Silence the inner critic

The simplest actions in life are shaped by your thoughts. Your decisions or inability to decide on any of the multitude of options presented to you are determined by clarity of thought, the ability to analyse and weigh-up said options and, to come to a satisfactory conclusion. It is your thoughts – whether positive or negative that enable you to progress or to come grinding to a halt.

 

What opportunities have passed you by?

 

We all have equal chances in life. You may not think it but there’s a level playing field out there in terms of your ability to achieve success. While some opportunities may not come gift-wrapped or presented on a silver platter, if you are forward-thinking, positive and determined, the energy that you promote conjures up a route not formerly open and new possibilities start to emerge. Whether you take these options and use them, is up to you, it’s a conscious choice. But what happens if your negative thought processes are whirring away in the background and holding you captive on a sub-conscious level?

 

There’s a voice inside your mind telling you no.

 

Many people find themselves having an inner dialogue. This is not an indulgence or a sign of madness but the inner critic that often comes out to play when indecision hovers. Your inner critic taints your thought processes and renders them inadequate. The inner critic paralyses you leading you to inactivity so that your true potential passes you by. Think of any occasion when your inner voice may have gleefully informed you that you are lacking – you are not good enough, pretty enough or clever enough. Here’s an example: you meet the person of your dreams or apply for a dream job and then, without warning, the inner critic demoralises your self-esteem and confidence stripping it back to its crumbling foundations. When you understand that it’s the work of the inner critic, awareness can give you an added advantage.

 

There’s a battle going on right now

 

The good news is that the inner critic can be quietened and tamed to order. Awareness and resolve come into play here. You can mentally gag that nagging voice and push all thoughts of doubt away. Don’t let the strength of this inner voice fool you though, one victory is not enough, it’s strong, but you need to be stronger. Make no mistake, turn your attention for one second and it will be back like a gremlin on the shoulder of life. The more you practice positivity and tell yourself you can achieve anything, the greater the potential for doing so.

Thoughts Are Energy

If all thoughts are energy then the question is, do we have to breathe life into all of them? The answer is a resounding no! If we understand that a particular thought is negative then we should be aware of it, but instead, turn our thoughts to a positive.

Let us look at an example; Tom has an expanding business; his staff are struggling to keep up with the ever-increasing workloads. He has a choice, either he employs new staff or he stays where he is and does not expand the business further. Sounds an easy decision right? The problem is that Tom is worried that if he loses his main contract, he’ll have extra wages to find but have no work to cover the rising costs. If Tom gives into his negative thought processes, if he dwells too deeply on his doubts, he could give life to those thoughts by allowing them to suffocate his potential to expand.

By not stepping out of his comfort zone, his company will not progress and through this, he may still be at risk of the negativity he is trying to avoid. Alternatively, Tom could simply be aware of the negative implications but take the positive route through life, being consciously prepared of the risks but, doing all he can to look for new contracts. This would place his business and any employees in a far healthier position. By understanding there are two outcomes but concentrating on the positive, he gives life only to the positive and eliminates his fears or at least the control those fears would have over him. Fear is only born from the negative thought after all. The whole point is that we get a choice in life.

We are far better off if we understand the negative implications but do not allow them to fester and transform into something that stops our potential or in this case, the progression of the business. Awareness is vital but allows you to concentrate on the desired outcome. So all thought is energy and the universe is balanced with both positive and negative energies, and by being aware of all outcomes, we start to take control. Denial only gives life to negative thoughts.

We all want to live successful and happy lives but for many people, it can seem impossible. Financial problems, relationship problems or unrealistic workloads can make life tough. In fact, far from being vibrant, life becomes grey and dreary and filled with a never-ending stream of problems. Did you know that it can take approximately 30 days to form new positive habits of change? This means that whatever you do to instigate feelings of well-being and positivity, you need to do it regularly and believe in it so that you start the transformational ball of change rolling. But these changes are far easier to utilise than you might think because they do not have to be earth-shattering changes, sometimes small changes are key. Why? Because they are easier to incorporate into everyday life and, they also give you that feel-good factor leading to improved self-esteem and confidence, clarity of mind and determination because you know you are doing something productive…. just for you.

If life is a little stressful or just uninspired and you are fed up of walking the treadmill of life, make up your mind to do something now. Yes, right now. You may feel lethargic or your self-belief may be at the bottom of a long list of priorities right now, but, small changes equal powerful steps towards a life that is enhanced. One small, positive step in life can deliver unbelievable transformation.

Being Aware of Awareness

Awareness

 

I have written many articles about the balance of positive and negative energy and how they are equally important in our lives. Having a positive outlook is very powerful but of course it must never be at the expense of an individual avoiding negative elements. Although this at first seems a strange thing to say, it does make sense when you consider that the Universe we live in is complete energy and therefore, must be balanced.

So what we really need is awareness.

Awareness empowers us because it gives us the ability to recognise negative situations without concentrating or dwelling upon them. In some ways, this fits into the law of attraction in that we should not allow our thoughts to manifest a reality but where it differs is that we should not ignore the negative outcome completely.

Awareness actually helps us block negativity and naturally turn possible outcomes into a positive. Another way of looking at this is that each and every thought is energy and so, by trying not think of an outcome you actually are. This is why awareness is so important as you are not trying block energy via your thoughts but allowing the balance to adjust. By being aware, we are allowing a natural balance and flow that still allows all possible outcomes but also, enables positive thoughts and positive feelings.

We can see this in action when we look at deeply rooted fears. An individual may be trying very hard to avoid acknowledging these fears, desperately trying to think in a positive way, unaware that they are actually manifesting this fear by deliberately attempting to block out negative thoughts. This only gives the fear power. Inevitably, this negative outcome is likely to manifest itself.

Although this short article only touches on awareness, it is something to consider. Awareness helps you to understand that avoidance is not the answer, rather, it is important to be aware that both positive and negative outcomes exist alongside each other in a perfect balance. By embracing this knowledge and then retaining positive thoughts, we can help shift energy to work in our favour.

Understanding your belief systems

Belief Systems

We are all born with a clean slate and our belief systems are passed down to us in a variety of ways i.e. from parents, teachers, friends and even the media plays a role in the development of all that we believe. In all honesty, we rarely question them and carry on throughout life following these beliefs as if they must be true. It pays to sit down and contemplate as to why we actually believe or think we know about something. This does not just mean spiritual or religious views although they very much do fit into this but also, to consider our whole attitude about life and even our thoughts on what is healthy or good for us. Our perceived values are also handed to us from external sources and will govern our way of thinking right from the start.

When I first sat down and began to question my own beliefs, it was a real wake-up call.

You see even when we think we are making decisions or choices based upon our own knowledge, this is quite often not the case. You may walk down a supermarket aisle and without due consideration, pluck items from the shelf never questioning which products are better or even why a certain product is chosen. The chances are that taste is only one aspect of why you choose certain types of food. Marketing hype and discussions with others may influence your beliefs.

Messages from bill boards and magazines seep through into our sub-conscious mind and facilitate change in the way we think. There is no escape from this barrage of often false information and those people within marketing, know that it works. We trust authority figures far too easily without ever researching the real truths and making an informed decision based on that research.

We do this with even more serious subjects too like religion and tend to believe all that has been passed down to us forgetting that someone else in another part of the world believes in a completely different set of values for exactly the same reason. We should always question our core beliefs and see if we truly understand them.

Finding the Real You
The real you can often be hidden under other peoples’ beliefs systems which they in turn developed from people passing their own beliefs onto them too. Look how easily a story can become twisted as it is passed on from person to person.

Once you start asking why something is important to you and what experiences you have based your belief system on, then often the truth becomes clear, and this is where your core values and beliefs can sometimes change. This is where the heart of the ‘real you’ resides, that place where what you do and live by is completely your choice based on your experiences, your instinct and your knowledge. These beliefs are yours alone.
